Products That Every Traveler Should Pack on their Next Adventure

Packing for an adventure is sometimes stressful but can be just as exciting as the trip itself. It is important to be prepared so you can save money and avoid hiccups on your trip. Whether you’re a seasoned backpacker or planning your first solo-trip, having the right travel gear can greatly enhance your journey. In this introduction, we’ll explore a range of essential products that every backpacker, digital nomad, or solo-traveler should consider and ones that I personally recommend and use myself! I personally used almost each and every item on this list on my last South America trip through Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, and finally USA, and they didn’t fail me once!

The Right Backpack

A reliable and comfortable backpack is the backbone of any backpacking endeavor. Look for one that fits your body well, offers ample storage capacity, and is durable enough to withstand the rigors of travel. What kind of adventure are you going on? Are you going to be trekking, or primarily exploring cities? Do you want to travel with just a personal item or are you willing to spend the exorbitant fees that airlines charge for their carry-on’s and cabin bags?

I highly recommend Cabin Zero for a variety of reasons. Their products are very reliable and built with strong materials, and their customer service is excellent. I am personally travelling with the Military 44L backpack listed below and if you add on some packing cubes, it’s very easy to keep organized and pack in a lot into this small frame. It also fits into the personal item slot on many budget airlines that I’ve traveled on if you don’t overstuff it. My only caveat with this bag is that the laptop slot is inside the bag which is annoying to take out in airports, but not the end of the world. My plan is to buy the Classic Pluss 44L next, but according to the specifications, it may be too big for the personal item slot.

A Good Waterproof Day Pack

A good waterproof day pack is just as important as the big bag you’re carrying because it’s what you’ll use on your day trips. You don’t want to constantly unpack your main bag and travel with such an important and large piece of luggage on your small adventures. I highly recommend the Cabin Zero ADV 30L Waterproof shown below. It folds nicely into a small pouch and is very light. It is fully waterproof and large enough to store my drone, towel, snacks, and water bottle for a day of adventuring, with plenty of room to spare.

Lightweight Microfibre Travel Towel

A good microfiber towel that is lightweight makes all the difference for when you’re traveling. They don’t retain odors much and they dry very quickly. They are also very light and portable. This Microfiber towel comes with a little carrying bag and a loop to hang and dry easily. This is a must have travel essential.

Universal Travel Adapter

A good universal adapter is very important when you’re traveling in countries that have different electrical outlets than back home. You need one that you know won’t fail on you and that will be able to handle various levels of voltage. I recommend Universal Travel Adapter here.

Compact Lightweight Toiletry Kit

A compact lightweight toiletry kit is important for backpackers, travelers, and digital nomads because it allows them to conveniently carry their essential toiletries in a compact and organized manner. It should include travel-sized toiletries, such as toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and other personal care items, ensuring they can maintain their hygiene while on the move. I like to stuff my toiletries in shoes and inbetween clothes to save space but if you have a lot and like to stay organized then this toiletry kit is lightweight, durable and affordable.

Portable Power Bank

A portable power bank is a must-have for any backpacker, traveler, or digital nomad. It provides a convenient source of backup power for their electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops, when they are on the go and unable to access a power outlet. It ensures that they can stay connected and powered up, especially during long journeys or when exploring remote locations. The last thing you want to do is run out of battery when you’re on a hike or a journey and not be able to take that perfect picture, or worse find your way home. This Portable Power Bank is good quality, has a strong battery life, and is affordable. I have used this one myself for 3 years now without any issues.

Corded Headphones

Corded headphones are important for backpackers, travelers, and digital nomads because they offer reliable and high-quality audio without the need for a Bluetooth connection or charging. They provide a backup option for listening to music, podcasts, or watching movies when Bluetooth headphones run out of battery or when they are in areas with poor connectivity. Additionally, corded headphones are often lighter and more compact than their wireless counterparts and can be used on planes that offer in-flight entertainment. Also they don’t run out of battery which is incredibly frustrating and they don’t have as many harmful waves. I recommend these JBL In Ear Corded headphones but you can buy just about any that fit your needs.

Reliable Shaver

A reliable shaver is important for travelers and digital nomads who want to maintain their grooming standards on the go. It allows them to stay well-groomed and presentable, whether they are backpacking, taking remote meetings, or exploring new destinations. A portable shaver that is easy to use, durable, and battery-powered can be a valuable addition to their travel essentials. I personally use the Philips One Blade and have been using it for about 5 years now. The battery lasts a long time and the blades last 3-6 months depending on how often you use it. I highly recommend it.

Padlock

A padlock is an essential item for backpackers, travelers, and digital nomads to secure their belongings and provide peace of mind. It can be used to lock their backpacks, suitcases, lockers, or hostel rooms, protecting their valuables from theft. A sturdy padlock with a combination or key lock system ensures their belongings are safe while they are out exploring or when they need to leave their luggage unattended. I prefer to buy a small and lightweight one and always have a spare, but there are hundreds of options available that you can choose from.

Money Belt

A money belt is a discreet and secure way for backpackers, travelers, and digital nomads to carry their cash, credit cards, and important documents while on the move. It is worn around the waist, hidden under clothing, and provides a level of protection against pickpockets and theft. A good quality money belt with multiple compartments and RFID-blocking features can help keep their valuables safe and organized.

Good Quality Camera

A good quality camera is important for backpackers, travelers, and digital nomads who want to capture and document their experiences and create lasting memories. A camera with advanced features, such as image stabilization, waterproofing, and interchangeable lenses, is necessary for capture stunning visuals and tell their travel stories effectively. I don’t expect anyone to make such a huge purchase just by looking at my page, because it’s always wise to do your research, but I plan on buying the Sony a6400 for my next trip and will update this page when I do with a review. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to do some light 4K video and landscape or street photography. Otherwise a smartphone with a good camera will also do the trick for most people just looking to post on social media for friends and family to see.

Resuable Water Bottle

A good reusable water bottle is integral for any trip if you want to save money and refill your own water at any hostel or accomadation you stay in, while also keeping your water cooler longer. We have our own branded Camelbak water bottle that is perfect for any trip and we appreciate your support, but otherwise you can buy just about any water bottle that suits your needs. Sleeping Gear

A lightweight and packable sleeping bag or sleeping pad is vital for a good night’s rest while camping or staying in budget accommodations. Opt for gear that suits the climate and terrain of your destination. This sleeping bag is appropriate for spring, summer and fall and is affordable and very lightweight and rolls up nicely into a small pouch so you can hang it from your bag.

Multi-Purpose Clothing

Pack versatile and moisture-wicking clothing that can be layered for different weather conditions. Consider items like quick-dry pants, breathable shirts, a waterproof jacket, and comfortable walking shoes. Carrying three pairs of jeans is probably a dumb idea, but one pair that you can wear on travel days won’t be too bad. Clothing that can double as formal and informal are awesome. If you’re planning on going out in a big city they may have dress codes, so shoes and shirts that can be worn both in different settings are really important.

Safety Navigation Tools

While smartphones are handy, it’s also smart to carry a physical map or spare phone with GPS and offline maps downloaded to your device as a backup. Additionally, a reliable compass and a compact flashlight or headlamp are essential tools for exploring off the beaten path.

Travel-Sized Essentials

Invest in travel-sized toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, insect repellent, and hand sanitizer. These portable versions save space and comply with airline carry-on restrictions. The worst thing is when you’re at the security check throwing out a brand new bottle of overpriced liquids.

Travel Documentation and Organization

Safeguard your travel documents by carrying a durable passport holder, a waterproof document bag, and a travel wallet to keep your essentials organized and easily accessible. We sell our own passport holder here and it’s really lightweight, durable and portable.
